Q: What kind of works can I request or make for this exchange?>We’ve limited what you can request/offer to fic, podfic, art, and vids. However, if you select “any” gift format, you’re granting your gifter carte blanche to make you any kind of work they like (so long as it meets the basic requirements of fulfilling your request). If you select “any” and there is a gift format you do not want to receive (say poetry just really isn’t your thing), please indicate as much in your request’s description field or in your exchange letter.
Q: What are the size/length requirements?>All fic must be at least 1k; vids must be at least 30 seconds; art must be complete, no sketches (although finished artwork done in a sketch style is fine); and all other works must represent roughly an equivalent amount of work (we consider 3-5 hours of labor to be a good yardstick). You can always feel free to make things that are larger than what’s listed here; these are simply the minimum requirements.
Q: What about pinch hits?>Pinch hits may be smaller than the requirements listed above out of necessity. Pinch hitters are still required to submit new, complete, and well-made works and do their best to fulfill one of the recipient’s requests, but if a pinch hit fic is less than 1k/vid is less than 30 seconds/etc, that’s okay.
Q: I’m not sure if I want to take part in the actual exchange. Can I just sign up to be a pinch hitter?>Yes please! Every exchange needs pinch hitters for one reason or another, and we'd be delighted to have you! Shoot us an email at blexchangemultifandom@gmail.com with the subject line “Pinch Hitter Volunteer”. Please be sure to include your email address, the fandom(s) you’re able to make works for, what format(s) you can create, and optionally one alternative way to contact you in the body of your email.
Q: Help! I can’t find a beta!>Tag us in your beta search posts on social media so we can help boost them! We also highly recommend the yuletide discord server’s “hippo” system, which is an anonymous beta search system facilitated by go-betweens referred to as “hippos”. Anyone can join the server and use this system, regardless of their participation in yuletide.
Q: Are there penalties for defaulting?>The short answer is: not if you tell us about it. There are no penalties for defaulting if you default on or by the mandatory July 23rd check in, or if you default after the check in and contact us about it before the end of the day on August 5th. If you simply drop off the face of the earth and don’t post a work by the due date without saying anything to us about it, we may consider not allowing you to participate in the next round of this exchange (if it continues to run).
Q: Can we make treats?>Yes! If you default but end up finishing anyways, you can post your work as a treat! Requests will be made public once all works for the gift exchange (not including pinch hits) have been submitted to the collection, and at that point anyone will be able to create treats based on any requests that they want. All treats must be posted before the collection closes at the end of the day on North American Labor Day, September 5th.
Q: How do I stay in the loop?>The mods will post reminders, updates, and other important notices to our twitter account, to blexchange.dreamwidth.org, and to the discord server. Please make sure you are following/watching/etc at least one of these three places so you know what’s going on!
Q: Signing up and/or posting is a little confusing. Help?>
